Welcome Mark!
Dr. Mark B. Richardson is a Research Plus Postdoctoral Fellow at CSIRO. Combining his backgrounds in synthetic carbohydrate chemistry, and biosensor design and fabrication, Mark is currently working towards advanced oligosaccharide-based aptamers for sensing of whole bacteria and viruses.
Mark completed his Ph.D. at the University of Melbourne under the supervision of Prof. Spencer Williams, where he worked on establishing a role for M. tuberculosis glycolipids in human immune functions (doi 10.1039/C5CC04773K, 10.1039/C6CC09584D). He was the 2016 recipient of the American Australian Association’s Dow Chemical Company Fellowship, which supported his postdoctoral research under the supervision of Prof. Greg Weiss at University of California, Irvine (doi 10.1021/acsami.8b16071, 10.1021/acs.joc.8b00270), where he also served as a lecturer for the Department of Chemistry (https://tinyurl.com/y7lw2byd). Mark Joined the Manufacturing Business Unit at CSIRO in January 2019.
Mark’s academic interests, outside of the molecular and life sciences, include astronomy and astrophysics, mathematics (especially number theory), programming, artificial intelligence and machine learning, mechanical engineering, and to a lesser extent anthropology, linguistics, and the sciences examining human culture and behaviour in general.
